Afshin Zamanpour is a registered US patent attorney admitted to the California State Bar and the USPTO, who bridges the gap between high-level academic research and practical intellectual property strategy. Leveraging a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Engineering (Chemical/Materials/Electrical) and an extensive hands-on research background, Afshin provides strategic legal counsel and secures robust patent protection for complex, cutting-edge innovations. Afshin's legal practice focuses heavily on drafting and prosecuting patent applications across a broad and highly technical spectrum of subject matters. He possesses specialized, deep expertise in semiconductor and superconductor fabrication; Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML); computer software and hardware architecture; nanotechnology and nanomaterials; advanced electrical engineering and electric devices; and defense, aerospace, and medical devices. 

Beyond domestic and international patent prosecution, he counsels clients on strategic portfolio management and drafts comprehensive invalidity, non-infringement, and freedom-to-operate analyses. He also brings significant experience in representing clients in complex post-grant proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB), including handling inter partes reviews (IPRs), Notices of Appeal, and the preparation of Appeal Briefs.

Prior to joining Shruti Law PLLC®, Afshin acquired nearly a decade of experience drafting and prosecuting over a thousand patent applications at a few highly-respected law firms. 

Prior to his legal career, Afshin was an accomplished postdoctoral researcher focusing on designing and fabricating semiconductors and magnetic materials. His rigorous scientific background includes the hands-on development of spin transistors, magnetic-doped semiconductors, MRAM applications, and nanostructured materials for electronic applications. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles in leading scientific publications, including the Journal of Applied Physics and the Journal of Alloys and Compounds. This profound, interdisciplinary technical foundation allows him to rapidly grasp complex inventions and translate highly specialized engineering concepts into strong, defensible intellectual property assets.
